Create a fixed asset register

Create a Fixed Asset Register to start tracking assets, depreciation, and year-end rollover in Simple Fixed Assets.
Before you start: have your financial year start date, opening asset list, and depreciation rates ready. If you are importing data, prepare a CSV with headers that match your spreadsheet columns.
What to configure first
Open the register home page and select Settings.
In Depreciation Tracker Setup, enter your Start of the Financial Year.
Set Depreciation Settings by Category for each asset type. The Rate (%) controls how much depreciation is applied, and Method lets you choose Straight Line or Reducing Balance.
Complete setup so the register can calculate depreciation correctly from day one.
Add your opening assets
Use Smart Entry if you want a guided, question-based way to add the first assets. Use Import CSV if you already have a list from another system or spreadsheet. Both paths create records in the same Fixed Asset Register.
Work with the register
From the home page, you can review assets, apply filters, group rows, recalculate values, export data, and generate an audit report. These tools help you keep the register clean as it grows.
Use Rollover to New Year at the end of the financial year to move into the next period. If you need to record disposals first, do that before rollover.
Common issues
Missing depreciation settings: set category rates before entering assets, or depreciation may not calculate as expected.
Wrong financial year: fix the start date in Depreciation Configuration before continuing.
Incomplete opening balances: make sure purchase cost and any accumulated depreciation are filled in when importing historical assets.
Next, set up your first assets with Smart Entry, or review Import from CSV if you have an existing list.
