Set depreciation rates and methods

Use depreciation settings when you need to change how assets are calculated in the Fixed Asset Register. The values in this dialog control the category defaults used for new entries and future depreciation runs.
Open the register first, then select Settings to open Depreciation Configuration.
Update category depreciation settings
Go to the Fixed Asset Register.
Select Settings.
In Depreciation Configuration, update Depreciation Settings by Category.
Review the categories, including Computer Equipment, Furniture and Fixtures, Office Equipment, Machinery, Buildings, and Sundry.
Select Save Configuration.
Use this when your accounting policy changes, when a category was assigned incorrectly, or when you want new assets to use a different rate or method. If you imported assets with CSV import or added them with Smart Entry, check that the category matches the right depreciation rules before you save.
Common issues
Choosing the wrong category applies the wrong rate to assets in that group.
Saving new settings does not rewrite historical depreciation already posted.
Changes do not update past values automatically.
Category rates must match your accounting policy or your reports will not agree with your books.
After a rollover, confirm the next period still reflects the rate you expect.
After you save, review the register and use filters if you need to check only one category at a time. If you are creating a new register, start with creating a fixed asset register, then import or enter assets, and finally set the category rules.
